DOG OF THE WEEEK

Coney Island Lunch

Coney Island Lunch has been grilling up Coney Island style dogs since 1923. Grilled hot dogs, topped with chili sauce (Coney Island Sauce), fresh onions and mustard. Owners, Pete and Bob Ventura were born and raised in Scranton, PA. They have over seventy-five years + combined in the Texas wiener business. Both started out as bus boys, then waiters and finally cooks under the watchful eye of their father and grandfather. What is a Texas Wiener? Well they start with a Berk's All Beef Wiener. Sliced in half, but not all the way through, and grilled to perfection. Then they serve it on a steamed roll. Adding their Düsseldorf mustard and fresh diced onions, the wiener is then topped with their famous homemade Chili Sauce. Mmmm..good! Try a plate of the gravy fries (hot fries topped with a kitchen boquet based gravy) with a hot dog. Check out the Coney Island Lunch at their website. Great site with everything from their history to photographs and much much more. By the way they have a heck of a St. Patty's Day Party.
