• Sometimes hot dogs can curl up when grilled making them difficult to fit into a roll. To prevent this, insert bamboo skewers (that have been soaked in water) lengthwise into each dog prior to grilling. When done grilling, just pull the skewers out.
• For safety reasons (and to prevent a mess), prick the casing of a hot dog in several places before heating in the microwave. This will prevent any chance of them exploding.
• To be sure your fire is medium-hot when grilling hot dogs, hold your hand 5 inches above the grill rack. If you can hold it there for 3 to 4 seconds, the fire is medium-hot.
• If adding a topping of sauerkraut to your dog, try fresh sauerkraut from the refrigerated aisle; it adds more crunch and is often milder than canned sauerkraut.
• When cooking hot dogs on the top of the stove, don't let the water boil; keep it at simmering so the dogs don't burst. This may take a bit longer but no one wants a water clogged dog that has split.
